Looking for a “burn the rest of that energy so they will actually go to bed on time” after-dinner hike?  Tarantula Hill is your winner.

This is one of our family’s absolute favorites.  My little ones love this hike because the panoramic views at the top that make them feel like they have conquered a mountain.  The paved road is easy for their little legs.  With the 360 degree view of the entire Conejo Valley, there is always something to look at.  Although the name Tarantula Hill make be a bit daunting, we have yet to hear of anyone seeing an actual tarantula on this hill.  We have, however, seen many rabbits, quail, and even a roadrunner or two.

Tarantula Hill is a half mile up to the top.  It is paved and so it is “stroller friendly,” but let me repeat, this is a half mile…UP!  Any stroller will get up just fine.  It just needs a bit of alarm and leg strength to get it up there.  This hike usually takes us less than an hour.  We take it very slow and stop many times to look at the sights.

This is a great location to spot stellar sunsets.  It has also been our favorite especially after a rainstorm.  It is paved so you do not need to worry about mud and because of the view from the top, it is easy to spot a rainbow.

There are no restrooms at this location and the parking on the side of the road near the trail head.

Fun Fact: This trail is also called Dawns Peak

Trail Activity Suggestions: birdwatching, rainbow hunting, and nature journaling
