This resource was inspired by a writing prompt I found in my daughter’s writing book.  It was one sheet with four squares. In each square, the student was asked to write weekly observations of a flower he/she planted.  When I presented this to my daughter she asked, “Mom, can’t we make a real flower journal?  You know, with a cover and pages inside?”

That is when I opened my computer and made this flower journal template.

The great thing about this journal is that it allows for a lot to be filled out on the first day of this project (when they are super excited about it).  I had my daughter cut out the pages, color them, and staple the pages together.  She filled in the first two pages and then we put it in our work basket until we fill it out again next week.

You might notice there is an actual picture of the plant in the picture box.  When I designed it, I was originally thinking that she would make a drawing.  My daughter asked if she could take a picture and print it instead.  I handed her my phone and she went took several pictures until she found an age she likes.  The photography part just added something else to the project and turned out to be super fun!

If you have a garden or interested in starting a flower journal with your kiddo, you can download this one for free here.  Have fun and let me know how it goes!
