Getting outdoors with little ones during a heatwave can be tricky. That is why I am so thankful for visitor centers. You can learn about the nature in the area and enjoy air conditioning!
One of our favorites is the Santa Monica Mountains Visitor center located in the King Gillette Ranch. There are tons of hands-on displays. Kiddos love wandering around and learning about the different animals that live in the mountains nearby. You can also earn a Jr. Ranger Badge while you are there too.
Parking is free for two hours in front of the visitors center. If outdoor temperatures allow it, there are several trails to explore nearby. Also, for a bonus element, check for geocaches while you are there.
