Have you used story rocks on hikes with kiddos?
I was given story rocks as a gift and they have added such a fun element to our hikes.
I know. It seems counterintuitive to bring rocks in your bag on a hike. These are small though, and I only bring a few on each hike.
At rest moments I pull them out and we take turns making up stories about our location using the rocks as characters. Other times, when my littlest is done with her nature journal, she will play with the rocks like dolls while my other kiddo finishes up her drawings.
One of our favorite hiking spots to use these rocks is at Paramount Ranch. Paramount Ranch is a part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Park. It is also used to film several movies and TV shows. We enjoy taking them here to create our own movie scene. This has proven to be a great way to add playtime to our hiking time.
If you are looking to add some story rocks to your adventure bag, there are several websites that teach you how to make them. You can also have a talented family member or friend make them for you (like I did). Or, there’s always Etsy.
