Have you ever been driving and remembered you left something at home?  Most of the time, it’s a fairly easy task to turn the car around and go back and get it.  When you’re on a trail, you have littles, it’s warm outside, and you have forgotten something, it will feel like an eternity to get back to that car.  That is why we have an ‘Adventure Bag.’

I just re-checked and it is currently packed with (and always packed with) the following:

  • first-aid kit
  • flashlight
  • two diapers
  • babywipes
  • a sleeve of crackers
  • a dollar
  • sunscreen
  • nature journal
  • bubbles
  • hand sanitizer
  • plastic grocery bag
  • a Meadow Mat
  • trail treats (mini tootsie pops)
  • extra pacifier
  • a pen
  • a bandana
  • a tin of trinkets for geocaching
  • plastic binoculars
  • Southern California Bird Check-List

On the morning of our adventure, I just add hats, water bottles, and lunches; and we are on our way.  It took me many long walks back to the car to learn what we needed to have packed.  Each family’s needs are slightly different, but hopefully this list will help if you are just starting to pack your adventure bag.

Having a bag that is packed like this makes my life so much easier.  I don’t have to think about making sure I have everything.  Also, being packed this way means we bring it with us all the time so we can stop anytime and check out a trail or park and know we’re prepared.

Our family loves our ‘Adventure Bag’ for more than what it carries inside.  We love what it signifies.  When the kiddos see I am grabbing it, they know we are going on more than just a trip to the grocery store.  We are going on an Adventure!  We’ve also started collecting patches as we travel and attach them to our bag, making it that much more special to us.
